Hello. I am George Martin, and I again welcome you to the selected sermons of Monsignor Joseph b McAllister, this being disc number three of 12. Having promised some biographical information on the life of Monsignor McAllister, why not start with a partial reading of his own creation, his Curriculum Vitae of 1978. He writes: The Monsignor Joseph B. McAllister was born in nineteen o six in Baltimore, Maryland.
Elementary and high school were with the Christian brothers. His studies for the priesthood, begun at St. Charles College, Catonsville, Maryland, were completed at the Catholic University of America, Washington, D. C, where he was a scholarship student in the Basilen Foundation and was ordained in the National Shrine Of The Immaculate Conception in 1935. He is a priest of the Archdiocese of Washington and professor emeritus 1971 of the Catholic University of America, whose faculty he joined in 1938 and taught in his school of philosophy until 1958.
He also conducted courses in ethics for graduate nurses in the university's school of nursing and for students in the school of social work. His field of research was medieval philosophy, its Greek origins, and developments in contemporary thought. He was appointed vice director of the university in 1958, created at Monsignor by John the twenty third, honored by Pope Paul the sixth. He became secretary of the university in 1968 and retired in 1971 to reside in the Holy Cross Parish, Garrett Park, Maryland. He keeps busy with parochial activities, study, and sailing his sloop.
At this point, I need to leave the reading of Monsignor's curriculum vitae as time does not allow for listing of his numerous publications, courses at other colleges, his travels and studies of Gregorian chant, oppositions he held and honors he received.
