The lord be with you. A reading of the holy gospel according to Saint Luke. One day, when Jesus was praying in seclusion, notice by himself, and his disciples were with him, not just right there though. He put this question to them, what or who do the crowd say that I am? They replied, John the baptizer.
Notice the emphasis there. What do the crowds who do the crowds say that I am? They replied, John the baptizer. And but some say Elijah, while others of the crowd claim that one of the prophets has returned from the dead. Now, listen.
But you, our lord says, who do you say that I am? Peter, good old Peter, Peter said in reply, the Messiah of God. Jesus then strictly forbade them forbade them to tell that to anybody. The son of man, Jesus said, must first endure. They're on their way to Jerusalem incidentally and the passion.
The son of man, Jesus said, must first endure many sufferings, be rejected by the elders, the high priests, the scribes, and then to be put to death, and then be raised up on the third day. This is the gospel, the good news of the Lord.
